Located in the heart of the Canberra CBD, Lim Peh commercial hospitality fitout by Total Fitouts Canberra North is a prime example of contemporary commercial design that marries functionality with strong branding. The commercial design of Lim Peh’s space is deeply rooted in the essence of Singaporean hawker culture, while also incorporating modern aesthetics to appeal to a contemporary audience. The interior design strikes a balance between clean, minimalist lines and bold, eye-catching branding elements.

The Canberra CBD is a bustling hub, teeming with activity from office workers, shoppers, and tourists. Lim Peh’s placement in this busy area ensures it benefits from consistent foot traffic, making it a go-to destination for quick, delicious meals. The strategic location of the commercial hospitality fitout not only maximises visibility but also positions the business as a convenient dining option for people on the move.

Lim Peh specialises in Singaporean-inspired hawker bowls, a concept that pays homage to the rich and vibrant street food culture of Singapore. This focus on fresh, flavourful, and versatile dishes makes Lim Peh a standout choice for those seeking a quick yet satisfying culinary experience. The business’s ability to combine traditional flavours with modern dining convenience reflects its commitment to offering both authenticity and innovation.

The colour palette of the commercial hospitality fitout is dominated by black, white, and vibrant red, creating a striking contrast that reinforces the brand’s identity. Red, a colour often associated with luck and prosperity in Asian cultures, is used strategically throughout the space to create a dynamic and welcoming atmosphere.

The finishes further enhance the visual appeal of the space. The tiles, for instance, feature a mix of patterns, including a modern herringbone design and classic subway styles. These textures add depth and interest to the interior, making it visually engaging without overwhelming the senses.

Nathan Ramunno, Director at Total Fitouts Canberra North adds, “Black finishes, combined with LED lighting, contribute to the sleek and modern vibe, while the playful neon elements infuse the space with energy and a touch of whimsy.”

“The overall mood is one of vibrancy and warmth, perfectly aligning with the lively and bustling spirit of Singaporean hawker centres.”

The scope of the project encompasses both functional and aesthetic elements, ensuring that every aspect of the commercial hospitality fitout is optimised for efficiency and customer engagement. At the heart of the commercial design is the front-of-house counter area, where orders are taken and food is served.

Nathan continues, “This space is designed to be both practical and visually striking, featuring a backlit façade that immediately draws attention.”

The counter also incorporates a playful “noodle-inspired” graphic logo at its base, reinforcing the brand’s identity in a fun and memorable way.

“Behind the scenes, the back-of-house kitchen and prep area are meticulously planned to facilitate smooth and efficient operations, ensuring that the team can meet the demands of a high-traffic location.”

One of the standout features of the commercial hospitality fitout is its strong branding, which is evident throughout the space. The LED chicken logo on the back wall is a key visual anchor, serving as both a decorative element and a symbol of the brand. This illuminated feature not only captures attention but also makes the brand instantly recognisable, helping to establish a lasting impression on customers. The branding extends to other elements as well, including the prominently displayed menu boards and the counter design, creating a cohesive and immersive brand experience.

The illuminated menu board is another noteworthy feature. Positioned prominently above the counter, the “Build Your Bowl” menu is designed to be both functional and visually appealing.

Nathan says, “The bold red-and-white colour scheme ensures that the menu is easy to read, while the clear layout makes it simple for customers to navigate the ordering process. This focus on clarity and accessibility reflects the business’s commitment to providing a seamless and enjoyable customer experience.”

Lighting plays a crucial role in defining the space and enhancing its visual appeal. One of the most distinctive lighting features is the wave-like neon light that hangs above the counter. This creative and dynamic element adds a sense of movement and energy to the space, drawing the eye upward and creating a sense of depth. The neon light not only serves as a functional source of illumination but also acts as a decorative feature that adds character and charm to the commercial hospitality fitout.

The material selection further underscores the thoughtful commercial design of the space. A mix of timber panels and patterned tiles is used to create a balance between warmth and modernity. The timber elements add a touch of natural texture, softening the overall aesthetic and creating a welcoming environment. This combination of materials reflects the duality of Singapore’s urban landscape, where traditional elements coexist harmoniously with modern architecture.

Despite its compact footprint, the layout of Lim Peh is carefully planned to maximise both functionality and customer engagement. The space is designed to accommodate a high volume of customers while ensuring that the workflow remains smooth and efficient. The integration of functional spaces, such as the kitchen and prep areas, with customer-facing design features ensures that the business can operate effectively without compromising on the quality of the customer experience.

One of the most unique aspects of the commercial design is its ability to capture the essence of Singaporean hawker culture while adapting it to a modern context. The use of bold branding elements, playful lighting, and a vibrant colour palette creates an atmosphere that is both authentic and contemporary. This fusion of tradition and modernity is a testament to the design and shoptfit team’s ability to understand and interpret the brand’s vision, translating it into a physical space that resonates with customers.

The Lim Peh commercial hospitality fitout is a shining example of how thoughtful commercial design and strong branding can transform a small hospitality space into a memorable and engaging destination. By combining functional efficiency with visual impact, the project not only meets the practical needs of the business but also elevates its identity and presence in a competitive market. The result is a space that is as visually captivating as it is operationally effective, making Lim Peh a standout addition to the Canberra CBD’s vibrant dining scene.
