The Kawungan Meat Locker commercial retail fitout by Total Fitouts Wide Bay was a project that expanded the footprint of a beloved local butcher shop, Kawungan Quality Meats. Known for their high-quality meats and fresh meal offerings, the shop needed more space to display its products. As repeat customers, having collaborated with Total Fitouts 12 years earlier for a shop refresh, the owners once again turned to them for this expansion.
The commercial fitout, carried out in collaboration with Marc Joyce Town Planning, required approval from the Fraser Coast Regional Council to expand into the adjacent unused space. The commercial design, crafted by in-house Commercial Designer Misa Yuzuriha and Total Fitouts Wide Bay Director Warren Thorpe, featured a large cold room with direct customer access, and a stylish, “man-cave” style connection between the old and new spaces. The expanded area also included ample shelving for popular sauces and meat rubs, enhancing the store’s display capacity. Advanced Display Systems provided the faux brick panels that were incorporated into the interior fitout. General Manager, Kelvin Grace said, “The workmanship by Warren and the team at Total Fitouts Wide Bay on the installation of our Panespol faux brick panels is exceptional. The attention-to-detail on the panel joins is fantastic and has delivered a seamless result that is incredibly realistic and indistinguishable from real brick. The project design team have made a great choice with colour of brick panel and it has added a high-quality feel that fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the store.”
After securing the necessary approvals, Project Manager Annet Maurer and Site Supervisor David Buturlin led the construction, ensuring minimal disruption to business. The commercial shop fitout only needed to close for 1.5 days, mostly to complete the flooring near the end of the build. This efficient approach ensured a smooth transformation, giving Kawungan Quality Meats the much-needed room to grow.
