During the International Conference 2023, Total Fitouts announced the winners of the prestigious 2022 design awards. The coveted awards are a chance to shine a spotlight on some of the high-quality design projects delivered by the Total Fitouts partners across Australia and New Zealand.
Nominated by franchise partners, the prestigious design awards are judged by an external architecture firm Bec Caldwell and Maytree Studios. There were 8 ‘Best Of’ categories covering both design and each fitout industry (Retail, Medical, Fitness, Wellness & Beauty, Office, and Hospitality). The highest number of nominations on record were received by the Corporate Support Team.

BEST RETAIL FITOUT
The Best Retail Commercial fitout category was won by Peter Zafis Total Fitouts Parramatta & Surry Hills for STAX Surry Hills.
Jane Chapman, Head of Marketing says “A successful retail fit out relies on creating a positive and engaging shopping experience for customers. Brand identity also plays a huge part with lighting and visual elements helping to reinforce the brand’s image. The winner of this award nailed each element of the design brief for this retail giant, which is popular with influencer and fashion-focused millennials.”

BEST MEDICAL FITOUT
The Best Medical Fitout was won by Mark Nashaty Total Fitouts Sunshine Coast North for Plaza Central Medical and Aesthetics.
Jane says “Medical fit outs can feel cold and clinical. The owner of the winning medical fit out space wanted to build a non-traditional medical centre where patients could walk in and feel comfortable and at ease. She wanted to help eliminate the feeling of ‘anxiety’ commonly associated with sitting in a sterile medical centre waiting room. The winner achieved this a more.”

BEST FITNESS FITOUT
The Best Fitness Fitout award was given to Matt Banks Total Fitouts Brisbane Inner South for Premium Pilates.
Jane, Head of Marketing Total Fitouts says “A successful fitness fit out relies on functionality, safety and practically. What makes a truly memorable fitness fit out is the atmosphere, style and personality. The winner of this category delivered a beautifully appealing space, with colour and attention to detail in execution.

BEST HOSPITALITY FITOUT
The Best Hospitality Fitout was awarded to Stuart Organ Total Fitouts Perth for Nippon Izakaya Kitchen + Bar.
Jane says “A well-designed hospitality fit out should be eye-catching and memorable. It should reflect the personality of the brand or business and create a distinctive ambiance and memorable experience for its customers. The winner of this category built and ethereal space with a stunning Japanese blossom tree at its centre.”

BEST WELLNESS & BEAUTY FITOUT
The Best Wellness & Beauty Fitout award was awarded to Mark Nashaty Total Fitouts Sunshine Coast North for SunCoast Skin.
Jane says “The popularity of Wellness & Beauty fitouts has grown in recent years resulting in a number of high-end, stylish spaces. The winner of the award delivered a ‘simple, refined and elegant’ space. “

BEST OFFICE FITOUT
The winner of Best Office Fitout goes to Peter Zafis Total Fitouts Parramatta and Surry Hills for their very own design studio.
Jane says “An office is an office right? Wrong, the winner of best office fitout fused modern design, on trend wooden panelling and state of the art tech to create the best office fitout which feels warm and welcoming.”

BEST DESIGN AWARDS
Due to the volume of quality nominations the best design category was split in to Best Small and Best Large Design.
BEST SMALL DESIGN
The best Small Design was taken out by Kellie Quach Total Fitouts Parramatta & Surry Hills for her Vita Nuova design.
Bec said “Lovely interpretation of the brief, using soft colours and curves to soften while maintaining minimal aesthetic”
BEST LARGE DESIGN
The Best Large Design was awarded to Amethyst Hudson Adelaide Central for Pop Up Health.
Judge Bec Caldwell noted, “The project had appealing interior spaces and a lovely connection to the outdoors. This achievement is a testament to Amethyst Hudson’s exceptional design skills and their ability to create innovative and engaging spaces that meet the needs of their clients.”
