Total Fitouts Perth South took on the exciting task of transforming the commercial retail fitout for Stax in the newly revitalised Karrinyup Shopping Centre, a key destination in Karrinyup. Nestled amongst other high-end tenancies, the location is part of a vibrant, bustling shopping environment that draws a diverse crowd. The strategic positioning within this dynamic centre meant that the fitout needed to reflect the premium nature of both the location and the Stax brand. With a focus on catering to a fashion-conscious clientele, the commercial fitout had to not only be functional but also create a shopping experience that stood out in a highly competitive retail landscape.
Stax is a brand synonymous with premium activewear, offering a diverse range of clothing designed to suit a wide array of activities, from intense workouts to casual brunches and everything in between. Their product line, which accommodates sizes from XXS to 4XL, emphasises inclusivity, making them a go-to brand for customers seeking stylish yet functional athletic wear. The retail space needed to echo this versatility and quality, ensuring that the physical store would resonate with the brand’s identity and appeal to its target market. This meant crafting a commercial retail fitout that was both inviting and reflective of the brand’s core values.
The commercial design approach for the Stax fitout embraced an industrial minimalist aesthetic, a style that aligns with the brand’s modern, no-nonsense approach to fashion. The minimalist commercial fit out was designed to keep the focus on the products, using clean lines and a neutral palette to create a calm and uncluttered environment.

This joinery included a sleek POS counter, eye-catching wall displays, and strategically placed island seating. Additionally, the project involved upgrading the lighting to enhance the shopping experience, a full interior repaint, and applying a skim coat and seal to the floors to ensure a polished, finished look.
Stuart Organ, director at Total Fitouts Perth South said, “One of the unique challenges of this project was that it was a renovation rather than a full fitout. Therefore, our team had to creatively integrate some of the existing walls and structures to keep the project within budget.”
This required a balance between maintaining the structural integrity of the space and introducing new elements that aligned with the Stax brand identity. Total Fitouts Perth South managed the commercial design process in-house, leveraging their expertise to ensure that every aspect of the fit out met the client’s expectations. Key suppliers and partners included Bunnings, Carpets Online, ID Commercial, and Prestige Interiors, all of whom played essential roles in bringing the commercial fitout to life.
The commercial fitout was not without its challenges. The team had to navigate the typical hurdles associated with working in a busy, live shopping centre environment. This included strict permit-to-work systems and limited access times due to noise and disruption concerns. Specifically, the team faced restrictions that prohibited access to the site after 8 a.m., requiring careful planning and communication to ensure the project stayed on track despite these limitations.
The timeline for the Stax commercial retail fitout was meticulously planned, spanning approximately 8 weeks from start to finish. The commercial design phase took 2 weeks, during which the in-house commercial design team worked closely with the client to ensure that the vision for the space was clearly defined and achievable. This was followed by a 1-week certification process, 2 weeks for building approval, and a final 3 weeks dedicated to the fitout construction. Despite the challenges faced, the project was completed on time, delivering a retail space that perfectly encapsulates the Stax brand while meeting the demands of a modern, high-traffic shopping centre environment.
