The Ballsy Tea commercial hospitality fitout by Total Fitouts Surry Hills and Parramatta was created for Ellen Stockwell, owner of the unique vegan bubble tea shop located in the bustling business district of North Sydney. As the only vegan bubble tea shop in the area, Ballsy Tea needed a standout commercial design that reflected its vibrant and fun brand.
The commercial interior design, led by in-house designer Mary, took 6 weeks to complete, with the commercial fitout itself managed by an external company. Ballsy Tea’s branding comes to life through vibrant colour choices, particularly the orange and purple ombre (Mexican flame) style that dominates the space. The gradient effect in rich purples creates a playful yet sophisticated atmosphere, reflecting the brand’s energetic personality. The clever use of colour psychology evokes both creativity and calmness, making the space visually striking while keeping it engaging for customers.
The minimalist layout of the commercial hospitality fitout is highly functional, with a clear flow between the self-service area, the prep station, and the service counter, ensuring a seamless experience for staff and customers alike. Well-placed counters and compact kitchen designs maximise efficiency without compromising comfort.
The overall commercial design carries a sleek, modern feel, characterised by sharp lines, glossy materials, and custom lighting. These elements highlight Ballsy Tea’s trendy and youthful image, giving the space a futuristic look. LED signage, in sync with the brand’s logo, ensures visibility from afar, while subtle lighting casts warm glows on the walls, adding depth to the vibrant colours. Natural accents, such as plants and wood touches, balance the bold colour scheme, adding warmth and relaxation. Despite the challenges posed by the commercial fitout’s location, with a train line beneath the building, the commercial interior design team successfully integrated the brand’s vision while maintaining structural integrity.
Peter Zafis, Director at Total Fitouts Surry Hills and Parramatta says, “The commercial fitout was carefully crafted to meet food compliance regulations while staying within the client’s budget. The layout was designed to include key spaces such as the kitchen, prep area, service area, and a customer self-serve station.”

This required the commercial design to work around these limitations while still delivering an effective, functional space.”
Despite these challenges, the outcome was a success, and the clients were so moved by the concept presentation that they were brought to tears—a proud moment for the team. The final result was a beautifully crafted bubble tea shop that embodies the essence of vibrancy while offering a modern, inviting space for customers. The efficient use of space, combined with the bold colour palette and sophisticated design elements, creates a fun and welcoming environment, making Ballsy Tea a standout destination in North Sydney. By overcoming challenges such as working around the train line beneath the shop and adhering to a tight timeline, Total Fitouts Surry Hills & Parramatta successfully delivered a commercial hospitality fitout design that not only meets but exceeds the client’s expectations, enhancing both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the shop.
